NuEnergy.ai Releases AI Sovereignty Assessment Framework Under Open Creative Commons License

Canadian Sovereignty Index Framework is made freely available for non-commercial use, standard development and research.

Ottawa, Canada – September 17, 2025 – NuEnergy.ai today announced the release of the first Canadian AI Sovereignty Assessment Framework under a Creative Commons license, making its AI Sovereignty Measurement Framework a developing open standard for all Canadians. This decision reflects NuEnergy.ai’s commitment to strengthening the Canadian AI sector and broadening access to responsible, sovereign artificial intelligence tools.  The Framework is in beta testing, including with the Federal Government of Canada.

“With the federal government prioritizing sovereign AI infrastructure, we’re ensuring Canada has the tools to actually measure and achieve AI sovereignty,” said Niraj Bhargava, CEO of NuEnergy.ai. “By providing an initial Canadian AI Sovereignty Index via an openly accessible framework, we’re helping to enable organizations to build and deploy trustworthy AI that reflects our values, safeguards Canadian data, and supports long-term innovation.”

Christian Siregar, VP AI Governance Programs at NuEnergy.ai, added: “We invite input from both public and private sectors as the Index evolves towards an industry standard. While NuEnergy.ai remains commercially available for independent third-party reviews, tools and AI governance services, this Index can be used immediately for self-assessment by AI developers and end users to address sovereignty risks.”

NuEnergy.ai also announced that Canada’s AI Sovereignty and Innovation Cluster (CAISIC) has formally adopted the Canadian AI Sovereignty Index as its baseline framework for evaluating AI sovereignty across industries.

“As founding members of CAISIC, we know that it’s important that Canada has an open standard for measuring AI sovereignty,” said Rafal Rohozinski, Vice Chair and cofounder at CAISIC. “This release sets a benchmark for all Canadian entrepreneurs to build globally competitive, transparent, and trustworthy AI. ‘Know your supply chains’ is more than a motto – it’s a value where Canada can lead. Our nation needs trust, transparency, and a global brand for Canada.”
